SHORT COURSE....... MIGRATION POLICY FOR REGIONAL ECONOMIC COMMUNITIES (RECs) IDEP, Dakar (Senegal), 08 – 12 July 2013





The African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) is a pan-African institution created in 1962 by the General Assembly of the United Nations. It began its operations on 21st November, 1963 with the primary purpose of accompanying and supporting newly independent African countries in their quest to build their human resource capacities as a necessary prerequisite for sustaining independence and promoting socio-economic development
 
Objective of the course


The course aims to guide  policymakers in Regional Economic Communities on the formulation of migration policies that will enhance regional integration and actively contribute to the implementation of countries' development strategies. It will provide policymakers with the required knowledge and the appropriate tools to develop migration policies at the intra-regional and inter-regional levels. The course will also introduce the participants to the possible institutional architecture that can enable a better contribution of migrants to the economic development of destination and origin countries and which should be defined in consultation with the different national stakeholders. The African Union’s Migration Policy Framework and its objectives will be presented to participants who will be invited to consider the ways in which this framework could be adapted at the level of the Regional Economic Communities.
 
Eligibility:
The beneficiaries of the course will be middle and senior level policymakers in the main Regional Economic Communities in Africa (ECOWAS, IGAD, EAC, COMESA, SADC, CENSAD, ECCAS and UMA) who deal with specific issues relating to migration
