2013/2014 Eric Bleumink Master’s Scholarships for Developing Countries at University of Groningen in Netherlands


The primary objective of the Eric Bleumink Fund, established on 23 May 2000, is to provide financial support to Master’s students and PhD students from developing countries who wish to pursue a Master’s degree or a doctorate for the names of the countries that are considered developing countries
.
Eligibility:
Criteria for approval are:
(a) Academic excellence, shown by academic performance and may be confirmed by letters of recommendation from university professors;
 (b) Contribution of candidate’s education in terms of strengthening the scientific capacity in the candidate’s home country;
(c) Perspectives to a long-term linkage between the home institution and the University of Groningen.
Note: Candidates should be nationals of and have their permanent residence in one of the country’s listed, have a good command of the English language, be in good health so health insurance in the Netherlands can be arranged, be available for the whole period of the fellowship and be able to take part in the entire study programme, have no other means of financing the study in question.

What does it cover
The grant covers tuition fee, costs of international travel, subsistence, books, and health insurance.  Please note that a considerable number of students apply for this scholarship each year, whereas the University can issue only a limited number of grants.

How to apply:
To be nominated the student needs to be (conditionally) admitted to one of the Master's programmes. Nominations will be handled by the admissions officers.

Master's degree programmes: A step-by-step application guide
1. First the candidate should apply for admission to a Master's programme at the University of Groningen .
2. When the candidate applies for this admission, he or she must indicate on the online application that he/she wishes to be nominated for a Eric Bleumink Fund scholarship.
3. If the study programme board agrees with the candidacy for a EBF scholarship, they will send a standard application form including the motivation of the candidate to the Board of the Eric Bleumink Fund prior to 1 March. Per studyprogramme only two candidates can be nominated.
4. The Board of the Eric Bleumink Fund will take a decision during their meeting in March.
5. The studyprogramme and the candidate will both be informed on the decision taken by the Board.
6. If a candidate is selected the coordinator and the candidate will have contact on the details of his or her arrival. If necessary he/she can contact the Board of the Eric Bleumink Fund for extra assistance.

2013/2014 Chevening Master’s Scholarship for Tanzanians in UK Universities


The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office Chevening Scholarship programme was established in 1983 and is now an internationally prestigious scheme with over 41,000 alumni. In 2011-12 there were over 700 Chevening Scholars studying at universities across the UK. Chevening Scholarships are currently offered in approximately 110 countries

Eligibility:
There are no age restrictions for Chevening Scholarships. To qualify for a Chevening Scholarship, you must:
  • demonstrate that you have achieved a minimum English language requirement (set out below) 
  • be a citizen of a Chevening-eligible country at the time of applying for the award, and intend to return there at the end of the period of study
  • hold a degree that is equivalent to at least a good UK second-class honours degree. Further information on UK degree equivalency can be found from UK NARIC
  • have completed at least two years' work or equivalent experience by 30 September 2012

What does it cover
A full Chevening Scholarship award normally comprises:
  • payment of tuition fees;
  • travel to and from your country of residence by an approved route for you only;
  • an arrival allowance;
  • a grant for the cost of preparation of a thesis or dissertation (if required);
  • an excess baggage allowance;
  • the cost of an entry clearance (visa) application for you only;
  • a monthly personal living allowance (stipend) to cover accommodation and living expenses. The monthly stipend will depend on whether you are studying inside or outside London. It is currently £917 per month outside London and £1134 per month inside London (subject to annual review).

The International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP) Fellowships in USA



The International Leaders in Education Program (ILEP)provides international teachers with unique opportunities to develop expertise in their subject areas enhance their teaching skills and increase their knowledge about the United States. ILEP consists of a semester-long non-degree, non-credit academic program at a U.S. University including seminars on new teaching methodologies, curriculum development, lesson planning, and teaching strategies. Participants will audit two courses in the host university’s School or Department of Education and participate in a practicum in a U.S. secondary school near the host university. All participants will also receive a technology allowance and instructional technology training. Cultural enrichment, mentoring, and support will be provided throughout the program. ILEP will commence in January 2014 and conclude in May 2014
Upon returning home, ILEP alumni are eligible to apply for small grants for essential teaching materials, follow-on training for other teachers, collaborative projects between schools in their home country and the United States, and other activities that build on their U.S. experience.

Eligibility:
  1. Applicant must be current secondary school full-time teachers with five or more years of classroom experience (not including pre-service practicum years)
  2. Applicant must be a teacher of English, Math, Science, or Social Studies (History, Civics, Geography, etc.)
  3. Applicant must be a citizen and resident of Tanzania
  4. Applicant must have proficiency in written and spoken English
  5. Applicant must plan to continue teaching after completion of the program
What does it cover
Provisions of the fellowship
  •     J-1 visa support;
  •    A pre-departure orientation held in participant’s home country;
  •   Round-trip airfare to and within the U.S.;
  •   A Welcome Program Workshop in Washington, D.C.;
  •    Academic program fees;
  •    Housing (generally shared with other program fellows);
  •  Accident and sickness medical insurance coverage (does not cover pre-existing conditions);
  •   Transportation to the U.S. field experience school (if necessary);
  •    A technology allowance;
  •    A daily allowance for meals and incidentals during the university academic program
  •     A book/professional development allowance;
  •    A baggage/shipping allowance;
  •    An End of Program Workshop in Washington, D.C.; and
  •   The opportunity to apply for alumni small grants
SELECTION PROCESS AND CRITERIA
ILEP Fellows will be selected through a merit-based open competition based on the criteria below. Top candidates will be interviewed by an interview panel and must take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or equivalent English language examination or provide valid results from June 2012 or later.

Selection Criteria (not in order of importance):
  •  Demonstrated commitment to teaching in the field of secondary education;
  •    Demonstrated leadership potential;
  •   Professional and educational experience and achievements;
  •   Potential for developing long-term linkages between U.S. and home country educational institutions and schools;
  •  Preparedness (including maturity, flexibility, and ability to function independently) for an intensive U.S.-based training program with very limited free time for personal travel or sightseeing;
  • Willingness and capacity to work collaboratively with international peers to foster a positive learning community for professional development;
  •     Ability to express ideas clearly and effectively; and
  • English language skills adequate to manage coursework, develop lesson plans, and team-teach in U.S. schools (a minimum paper-based or equivalent TOEFL score of 500 is required for ILEP participation).
  • Applicants who have had few or no opportunities to travel to the U.S. will be given priority.
  •   Priority will be given to teachers from rural, under-resourced schools who have had limited or no previous professional development opportunities in their world region or the U.S. 
Duration of Awards:  Fellowships is offered for 5 month
