DAAD Civil Society Leadership Award (Scholarship) for Masters


DAAD is offering Civil Society Leadership Awards to obtain a postgraduate university degree, a Master’s or LL.M degree. The duration of funding depends on the standard period of study of the Master’s or Magister degree course, however it is for a maximum of 24 months. The programme aims to support individuals who demonstrate both academic and professional excellence and seek to become civil society leaders in their home communities. The application deadline is 30 November 2014

Eligibility:
Excellently-qualified graduates and students who have completed a first degree (Bachelor, Diplom or comparable academic degree) at the latest by the time they commence their scholarship-supported study programme.
As a rule, applicants should have taken their final examinations no longer than six years before the time of application.
Applicants who have been resident in Germany for longer than 15 months at the time of application cannot be considered.
A Scholarship Award Letter from the DAAD is only valid if you have been admitted to study at the desired host university.
If the degree programme includes a study period or work placement abroad lasting several months, funding for this period abroad is usually only possible under the following conditions:
  • The study visit is essential for achievement of the scholarship objective.
  • The study period is no longer than a quarter of the scholarship period. Longer periods cannot be funded, even partially.
  • The study period does not take place in the home country or at a diplomatic mission in the home country.
Scholarship value (What does it cover):
Scholarship payments of 750 euros a month
-Payments towards health, accident and personal liability insurance cover
-Travel allowance, unless these expenses are covered by the home country or another source of funding
-One-off study allowance
-Where necessary and required, payment for a language course (2 or 4 months)
Under certain circumstances, scholarship holders may receive the following additional benefits: Contribution towards tuition fees that may be charged by the university (max. 500 euros per semester) and Monthly rent subsidy. To enable scholarship holders to learn German in preparation for their stay in the country, the following services are offered:
-Payment of course fees for the online language course “Deutsch-Uni Online (DUO)” for six months after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter
-Where necessary, language course (2 or 4 months) before the start of the study visit; the DAAD decides whether to fund participation and for how long depending on German language skills and project. Participation in a language course is compulsory
-Allowance for a personally chosen German language course during the scholarship period
-Reimbursement of the fees for the TestDaF test which has either been taken in the home country after receipt of the Scholarship Award Letter or in Germany before the end of the funding period
-Reimbursement of the fee for English certification, e.g. TOEFL, IELTS or GRE tests, insofar as this is provably required by the relevant study programm
How to Apply:
You are required to submit 3 sets of copies of your application. The application consists of:

  • Full curriculum vitae in tabular form (max. 3 pages)
  • Statement about academic and personal reasons for the planned study project in Germany (letter of motivation; 1 - 3 pages)
  • Form "Profile of the desired Degree Programme" - Please select up to three study programmes according to preference.
  • University degree certificate indicating final grade(s): the certificate must be subsequently submitted before the scholarship-supported study programme begins if studies have not been completed at the time of application.
  • Other documents you think might be of relevance to your application (e.g. certificates of employment, proof of placements)
  • Copy of school-leaving certificate which entitles holders to study at a university in the home country (with all individual grades)
  • Proof of language skills (German and/or English)
  • German or English translations of documents submitted in the national language
  • One recent reference from a university teacher which provides information about your qualifications; please enclose one copy of the reference in a sealed envelope with each copy of your application (form “Reports on scholarship applications submitted by foreign students, graduates, doctoral students and postdocs”, www.daad.de/en/form)
  • A health certificate; this is only required, if you are selected for a scholarship. Therefore, please submit this document not before requested to do so by the DAAD Head Office.

University of Sydney International Scholarships (USydIS) (Masters and PhD)


The University of Sydney awards these scholarships twice a year – in October/November for commencement in Semester 1 (March) and in early April for commencement in Semester 2 (July).
The objective of the USydIS is to attract top quality international postgraduate students to undertake research projects which will enhance the University's research activities. The USydIS is open to all research disciplines; however participation in the USydIS program each semester is at the discretion of the Dean of each faculty. These Scholarships will be awarded to eligible applicants twice a year – in October/November in conjunction with the International Postgraduate Research Scholarships (IPRS) for commencement in Semester 1 (March), and in early April for commencement in Semester 2 (July)
Eligibility:
To be eligible for USydIS, you must:
  • Be an international student commencing full-time enrolment in a higher degree by research (HDR) at the University of Sydney.
  • Be a student undertaking study in a subject area identified by the university as within the areas of its research concentration.
  • Not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to an Australian research doctorate or, if undertaking a research masters degree, not hold a research qualification regarded to be equivalent to an Australian research masters.
  • Not be receiving a scholarship for which course tuition is a component under any other scholarship scheme to which the Australian government makes a substantial contribution.
Scholarship value (What does it cover):
The USydIS will cover tuition fees and living allowance for up to three years with a possibility of one semester's extension for PhD students.
How to Apply:
The USydIS is available to students commencing in both the March and July Semesters. Students must indicate that they would like to be considered for the IPRS by completing the relevant section of the Postgraduate Research Application form (add hyperlink to Course Search). No separate application for a USydIS Scholarship is necessary. To be considered for the award, applications MUST be received by the International Student Office by:
  • 31 July of the previous year for Semester 1 (March) commencement
  • 15 December of the previous year for Semester 2 (July) commencement
Application Deadline: Applications must be received by the International Student Office by 31 July of the previous year for semester 1 (March) or by 15 December of the previous year for semester 2 (July).

New Zealand International Scholarships for PhD



Recipients can undertake PhD study in any discipline at any of New Zealand eight Universities:
AUT University, Lincoln University, Massey University, University of Auckland, University of Canterbury, University of Otago, University of Waikato, Victoria University of Wellington.
Requirements for eligibility
In order to receive the scholarship, you must meet ALL five of the following eligibility criterion.
1.     be a citizen of any country except New Zealand, Australia and Fiji
2.     hold a minimum equivalent 3.6/4.0 GPA OR A / A+ average in your most recent or highest post graduate tertiary qualification
3.     conduct your PhD study in New Zealand (not from a distance)
4.     meet the requirements for direct entry into a PhD programme at a New Zealand University. This includes; having completed the required academic qualifications for direct entry and meeting the requirements for English language proficiency
5.     If you have commenced your PhD studies in New Zealand, your start date must be after 15 January 2014
Selection criteria
The scholarships are awarded based on academic excellence and the impact of the proposed research for New Zealand.  Research projects should have a tangible, positive effect on:
  • New Zealand’s economy, in terms of international trade and business development in key sectors
  • Or, New Zealand’s population in terms of health and safety
  • Or, Research and scholarship in the above two areas
Before you start
VALUE OF SCHOLARSHIPS
The NZIDRS provides full tuition fees plus a living stipend for up to 36 months for international students to undertake PhD study at a New Zealand university. The NZIDRS are funded by the New Zealand Government and administered by Education New Zealand.
The NZIDRS cover:
  • University tuition fees and associated student levies for 3 years
  • An annual living stipend of NZ$25,000 or NZ$2083.33 per month for 36 months
  • Medical insurance coverage up to NZ$600 annually for 3 years

COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP (MASTER AND PhD) AND FELLOWSHIP PLAN (CSFP)



The Malaysian Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan are awarded by the Malaysian Government to the nominated students from the Commonwealth countries to study at the post-graduate level in Malaysia. This is a Government to Government scheme without any bond imposed by Malaysia. The awards for Masters degree are between 12 to 24 months depending on the courses. Awards for pursuing PhD degree are for 3 years. The Awards are only applicable for candidates pursuing full-time degree programme in Malaysia.
Requirements for eligibility
To be eligible for COMMONWEALTH SCHOLARSHIP AND FELLOWSHIP PLAN (CSFP), applicants must fit the following criteria:-
  1. Not be more than 45 years of age during application.
  2. Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5/4.0 at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. In addition, for post-doctoral programme, the selection will be evaluated based on the number of books produced, refereed/non refereed journals, portfolio and patent copyright. The Post-Doctoral candidate must have excellent reputation in research and possesses knowledge related to the research to be carried out.
  3. Took one of the following English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application. The list of tests and minimum scores required:
    1. IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5; or
    2. TOEFL paper-based test with a score of at least 580 or computer-based test with a score of at least 230 or internet-based test with a score at least 92.
  4. In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of medical examination is to be borne by the applicants
  5. Wrote a proposal that is relevant to field of studies.
  6. Has applied for and gained admission to postgraduate and post-doctoral studies in Malaysia (conditional letters of offer will be accepted at the time of application or has a confirmation of acceptance or affiliation with the universities in Malaysia

Scholarship is available for pursuing postgraduate degree (Master and PhD) at Malaysian universities.
Field of studies is in the following priority areas:
  1. Science and Engineering
  2. Agriculture and Fisheries
  3. Economics and Islamic Finance
  4. Information and Communication Technology
  5. Biotechnology
  6. Biosecurity and Food Safety
  7. Infrastructure and Utility
  8. Environmental Studies
  9. Health not including nursing, medicine, clinical pharmacy.
